Many readers are probably familiar with Roz Stendahl and the incredibly useful advice she dispenses as a member of the EDM group. You may also remember that she gave me a special correspondence class in watercoloring a few years back that transformed my journal pages. On this special double episode of the podcast, Roz and I talk about all sorts of things drawing-related. We managed to blather on for a full two episodes worth of stuff and, frankly, could have gone on for hours more.
Part One can be found here.
Part Two is here.
I am very happy that Roz will be represented in my upcoming book, An Illustrated Life: drawing inspiration from the private sketchbooks of artists, illustrators and designers due out in October from HOW books ( though you can pre-order it today).
I am posting both installments of the interview today; they are perfect to listen to as you draw in your own journal.
Please stay tuned and consider subscribing via RSS or iTunes* to this weekly feature until the book comes out this Fall.
See all previous episodes on my podcast home page.
Next episode: Seamus Heffernan.

I could listen to Roz forever -- I downloaded part 2 without any problem, but part 1 came down truncated. Is it just me? I tried 3 times to download it.
I've pre-ordered your book -- really looking forward to it.

I listened to the first part of the podcast today while sketching during my daughter's naptime, and I can't wait to hear the second instalment! Roz is such an articulate and interesting woman. I was especially intrigued by the discussion of how she likes to get in close, rather than view things (landscape) from a distance: suddenly it made sense to me why I prefer still life, and making small studies from life, to any kind of landscape painting.
Danny, you have a lovely soft voice and accent. Occasionally I find it difficult to pick up parts of what you're saying, but that doesn't detract hugely from my enjoyment of the podcasts.
I will definitely be placing an order for the book!

Love this page--wow! I swear I saw this artist's work in another book as well. Anyhow, I really need to give these a listen sometime. I could imagine the new book coming out in a limited edition including a cd or two with audio snipets from interviews. Would be pretty cool, I think.

Fortunate for me, I have a sketchbook that Roz made. I had participated in a drawing practie awhile ago and she gave us all a sketchbook! I kept the pristine book for the longest time until I finally filled it up. Listening to her describe her bookmaking process and all her wonderful insights about drawing has motivated me to continue working in that book. These podcasts are so great. Thanks, Danny.
Take care, Sharon (in Houston)
