This week's podcast is an interview with LA illustrator and teacher Rama Hughes. Rama's work is clear and confident and his ability to capture likeness is unnerving. A long time sketchbooks keeper, he has a lot of interesting things to say about incorporating art into your every day life — he and his wife Christine seem to be endlessly creative and just sit around with their friends making things while the rest of us are at McDonald's or watching the American Idol semifinals. I urge you to listen to this interview carefully and be inspired.
I also urge you to join Rama's Portrait Party. My family has been drawing each other for the party (I'll post some pictures soon).
I am very happy that Rama will be represented in my upcoming book, An Illustrated Life: drawing inspiration from the private sketchbooks of artists, illustrators and designers due out in October from HOW books ( though you can pre-order it today).
The whole episode is 47 minutes long; it's perfect to listen to as you draw in your own journal.
Please stay tuned and consider subscribing via RSS or iTunes* to this weekly feature until the book comes out this Fall.
See all previous episodes on my podcast home page.
Oh, and here are some pictures from the Gregory family Portrait party: (I drew Patti who drew Jack who drew me....etc.) and Roz just joined the party too. Check it out!

thanks for the great interview. very interesting to hear the voices of people you just "know" through theri websites.
Loved it! When he talks about the "beginning" of the portrait party in college, and the box of presents and drawings he received for his birthday... amazing, really.

thanks so much for the phone call, danny. it was fun! and experiencing it again as a podcast was surreal.
(christine and i played it on our long drive to her parents' house this weekend. she laughed and laughed at me because hearing my own voice on her radio fascinated me so unexpectedly. when i heard my answers to your questions, i couldn't help thinking "wow, i agree with every single thing this guy is saying... oh, right, because he's me.")
Love this interview - these podcasts are just great. And a big hooray - An Illustrated Life is now available to pre-order at amazon.co.uk - was afraid we were going to have to wait a bit longer for it in the UK but we're only going to have to wait until 8 December!
Thanks for the great podcasts. I've listened to them while at work or during my commute. Lots of great info. And I just met Christine, Rama's wife, at an art workshop a couple weeks ago, so it was especially cool to get to hear an interview with Rama.
A record of my exploration into all aspects of drawing, illustrated journaling, creativity, and the inspiring aspects of art. By the author of "Everyday Matters," "The Creative License", and "An Illustrated Life" and other books.

I just listened to this podcast -- it was great! They are all so inspiring, and each in a different way.
