Write Me

Jersey City

January 8, 2007

On the way to work, walking up the West Side drive, one of the loveliest additions to my lovely city. The view of Jersey is is a little dull with all its new glass box construction but it's nice to watch the boats whizz by and pretend I live in some coastal resort like Miami or Brighton or Dhaka.

I am fiddling with an ultra cheapoid set of gouache paints Patti gave me. It came in a set of stacking disks that look lovely in the box but are chalky and a little garish on the page. Perfect for painting JC and a garbage truck.
This, the final page of my moleskine, is painted not on watercolor paper but the oak-tag end-paper of the book. I have squeezed every morsel of pleasure out of this book and it's time to crack open the next volume.

That's newkie 'broon' rather than 'brown', there. Takes me back to my student days.

Love the moleskine art. Very inspiring - ended up getting a small one like yours for my trip to Italy. So much better than the old and strange thick yellow paper, isn't it? Although th endpaper colour is nice. Can't have it both ways, I suppose.

And brewed no longer in Newcastle, but over the river in my home town of Gateshead.

(The boozers come out of the woodwork to post)

I have that same set of gouache. I even bought a few sets for my friends. They were cheapies but great to tuck in the bag with some fantastic water barrel brushes and head out into the wilds of where ever. You must not be diluting them too much because your colors on this post look pretty vivid. Here's one of my attempts (on a less than suitable paper too!) http://web.mac.com/ecaffeinated/iWeb/Traylorillo/TRAYLORILLO/973FAD93-5268-4569-9F25-2FA2B38D04C0.html

So glad you love your watercolor moleskine like I do! Nice skyline drawing.

Oh, not garish at all! I love the rich vibrant color here. I'm trying to make myself finish up the current Moleskine sketch before I break in my new watercolor one. Can't wait!

I use the same cheap watercolors some times! :)
