This is beautiful. I always like your work and enjoy your style... this seems like a breakthrough for you. The composition, the colors, the whites, it's just fantastic.
Holy cow. Those eyes look realer than real...far more lifelike than even a photo. And they're so haunting. Are these the new W&N Cotman watercolors you were talking about Danny? Also, I'm wondering what made you choose red as the background. You'd think it would overpower those eyes, but it doesn't.
Danny, It's so exciting to see every new portrait you post here. This new guy is quite something. Are monkeys "in" right now? I was just browsing amazon.com and saw this book "Monkey Portraits" by Jill Greenberg, Paul Weitz and it also looks amazing.
Question: do you draw your portraits in front of your model or do you use a ref. photo? Also, is there a way somewhere here in your website where we can see your 600# portraits all together? I might have missed viewing some. Your drawings kind of remind me of the feeling of looking at a Norman Rockwell illustration, leaves you wanting to see more... Well done!
Hey Danny thats a great new portrait. I wonder if you saw the show of Monkeys and their relatives at Clampart this month? I just did and this reminds me of those great portraits.
Your colors are spectacular!
That's an impressive portrait. All of your work is great, but this stands out. I love the contrast between the green fur and the red background. Awesome.
I came back to this pic to read the other comments, and to see if you'd answered some of the interesting questions posted here, Danny. But there hasn't been a reply. I've noticed this on your other blog pages, too, and in the discussion group. While I realize it's absolutely impossible to address every single query, I'm wondering if you answer even once in awhile (especially on an active page like this), or if this is just a one-way street. Are we meant to just look and praise?
