How nice. It makes me feel a little bit homesick, but also happy to see all those familiar buildings in a different way. I grew up in the Netherlands and lived in Amsterdam before we first moved to Scotland and are now in Greenwich CT.

Fabulous! Loved every page. (What a crazy looking street sweeper!)

What a fabulous visual diary, Danny. I was quite proud of the drawings I made on a recent trip to France - until I saw yours! They put mine to shame. How do you find the time to make such detailed drawings while you're on holiday and on the move? Mine are always fitted into snatched minutes with family urging me to "get a move on". I really don't know how you do it, but I'm very glad you do!

The detail in your buildings is great,Danny. The fish skeleton is particularly well
done. The touches of color are just right..like the street sweeper.

Your pictures evoke Amsterdam beautifully, Danny - I'm sorry your visit here was otherwise so frustrating. I've lived in Amsterdam for almost a year (I'm from the UK originally) and find the city exasperating and a joy in equal measures. (But I do secretly love it here and your paintings remind me why.)

When I glanced at your first drawing I recognized the city. I thought, oh Patty must have stayed home. Sorry you were lead astray about ease of transport there. Your drawings are as fresh as ever. Where are you celebrating Int'l Sketchcrawl Day/Weekend? We'll be in a garden by the Pacific. San Diego Sketchcrawlers Unite! Thanks to you Danny, welcome home.

Did you get the pushbike lane thing? Me ... I almost managed to get skittled by using it as a footpath.
Thanks for the memories.

Awh I get ill and what do you do? You visit my town! So close and yet, so far ;)
I'm sorry things didn't turn out as well as you expected, we do have better access in other cities... Amsterdam (among other big cities in the NL) is just too full of cute cobblestones, bridges, canals and narrow streets.
I do love your observations, makes me look at this city in a different way :)
Thanks Danny!

Glad to see you back and blogging. Your journal drawings are great as usual. The pics of your family are awesome. A beautiful three you are. I don't think I could hang with open-air urinals though. Unh-unh :::shaking head:::

Beautiful drawings of a beautiful city (which from my experience has dire accommodation – we stayed in a fleapit of a self catered flat when we were there)
Posted by: Julie Oakley | September 12, 2006 07:04 AM
Danny, thank you for your beautiful drawings of the city I live in. Despite the large amount of people, noise and traffic I love to live in Amsterdam. Riding on my bike I discover each time new things. Your work seems like a reflection of how I see my city.

Danny: you´re getting better and better. I quite like the bold quality of the line and miss somehow some people around. I feel more confortable drawing objects and architecture myself but one must make an effort when sketching movings subjects!

How nice! My goal is to be able to make a journal like this.
I have just started reading your book "The Creative License", and it is really inspiring.
