My podcasts seem to be quite popular. A little too popular.
This morning I got an email from Apple where my podcasts are being hosted:
Please be aware that you've exceeded 75% of your .Mac data transfer quota for the current period. At the current rate you may exceed your quota ... If this happens, access to your site(s) will be turned off.
Does anyone know the best way aound this? A better way to host the huge files of a podcast? If I can't solve it, I may have to ditch the project.
Your pal,
Danny

I don't know too much about podcasting yet, but in my research I came across Audioblog...you have to pay to subscribe/use, but I thought the rates were very reasonable...my radio partner and I want to archive our weekly show on our site...mp3 files...and it seems to me that Audioblog will let us store quite a bit for not a lot...but like I said, I'm a total newbie at this.

Hi Danny, I use a service called Libsyn.com. I'm on their lowest tier of hosting which costs $5 a month for unlimited downloads. They differentiate the tiers by how much you're allowed to upload per month. Anyhow, check them out. I have been extrememly satisfied. Great podcasts, by the way. I hope you can continue to create them.

Hello Danny - I've just discovered about .Mac's quotas too. It is possible to buy a bigger quota along with a bigger iDisk (at least it is here in the UK). A 4GB iDisk comes with 250GB monthly transfer limit, which is 25 times the amount with the standard account I have at the moment. It's something I'm considering.
Hope that helps.

Hi Danny,
We've just started podcasting too and have tried odeo.com and archive.org both are free. archive.org requires your podcast to be creative commons, but lets you upload the files using ftp. Odeo only let you record using their flash interface or over the phone. We still pre-record in Garageband or Cool Edit and then just hit play on our software and record on Odeo (kinda like dubbing cassettes in the old days!).
Goodluck

Danny, writer Cory Doctorow uploads his podcast files to www.archive.org, through ourmedia.org. (I see that someone mentioned it in a previous comment, too. I use it to host my text files when I publish fiction to my blog.) It's free and seems to be reliable, though I've heard it's occasionally slow. Good luck!
