Welcome to the New Site

November 29, 2005

Today we are launching a brand new version of dannygregory.com, full of the many things you've (hopefully) liked in the past and a whole lot more. New content, new ideas and new ways to find your way around.

The brilliant and talented Trish Harvey and Jacob Rose designed the site. It's a great improvement in several aspects. First of all, it looks lovely - far more organic and richly illustrated than the garden-variety blog. Secondly, it makes all of the hundreds of essays I've written far more organized and accessible to you. It has an in-depth table of contents so you can find your way through the materials and has an easy to use nav bar that will propel you to various departments in a flash.
There are loads of features that have been especially designed for my site so let me give you a tour:

1. Wherever you are in the site, click this header and you'll be brought back to the home page.
2. This will let you learn more about my new book, The Creative License: Giving Yourself Permission To Be The Artist You Truly Are and then instantly buy fresh, multiple copies for everyone you know. Try it.
3. Email me, anytime, about anything (except hot stock tips and sexual aids).
4. Pull down this menu to explore the many departments of the site. There are hundreds of essays and drawings created over the past four years and all arranged in convenient categories.
5. Here's "Everyday Matters," the newest essay, served piping hot.
6. The community section will put you in touch with like minded creative folks. You can also join the Everyday Matters group that grew out of this site in 2004 and now has over a thousand members who share their work and encouragement.
7. Here are some drawings done by group members. The gallery changes all the time.
8. You'll find listings about community activities here. For example, the weekly EDM challenge or Illustration Friday, both of which provided suggestions and help to keep you motivated.
9. Recent comments from readers appear here.
10. "Just Try It" is is a random selection of encouraging suggestions or perspectives on technique from past essays. Every time you visit the site, you'll see a different one or two.
11. Click here to visit the Table of Contents and get a more in-depth view of the departments.
12. News about my doings, appearances, media engagements, etc.
13. The cream of past essays from the site are randomly served up here each time you visit.
14. Please feel free to leave comments on anything you read on the site. You can do so here for others to share or write to me directly by email.
15. In case you missed something, here's a list of the past handful of essays that have appeared on the site.

And one final thing: it's okay to say my new baby is ugly (within reason). If you encounter any technical weirdness of any kind as you wander through dannygregory.com, please let me know and we'll straighten it out.

Comments

Great site- love the new look.

The scratchy line on the bottom of the page at first looked like a technical mistake but it apears after looking at longer to be intentional. I think this needs more work it seems to be disconnected to everything else.

Jeez Danny, You've been busy. I'm dazzled by the new site. Do you move the furniture around your house often too? Thanks for all you work. You are so dedicated to helping us and supporting us in our creative endeavors. I hope "license" sells out completely! Then you'll have to go into a second and third printing.

Danny,

Affter looking some more on your site- depending on its mood the page renders differently each time- it took me three times before the page rendered correctly on my screen. I would get the left column looking way too big and then the right column and on the third time it was just right.

I don't know much about HTML to provide any help but I can say I was viewing it with Safari on my mac.

I also found a Verboten area that requires a username and password... didn't mean to....but I couldn't get rid of it once I found it- I had to close the page and restart it.

I love this new site. There's so much to look at, point at, scroll down, see and read.

Kudos to your web designers, Danny!!

hmmm..its jam packed..I am missing the Miles Davis quote "...there are no mistakes..."..is there room...? *whine*

Danny - This is great! Should make navigating around a breeze. You're the MAN!

Danny, I love the new site. So much good stuff to look at. However, when I click on a post in my newsreader, the web-based www.wizzcomputers.com, which I am using in Firefox in OSX, I get a blank page with the message "No authentication." I do not get this message with other atom.xml feeds.

What awesome ideas! I do hope that you are planning a book tour for this new release...

I also love the new categories. While it was fun to read the archives month by month when I originally discovered EDM, the categories will make it easier to find past posts.

love the "more stuff" look but I can't access any of the links- I tried to click on the monoprint, on the alfred hitchcock piece etc. and couldn't get anywhere...maybe it's just me? I'm sure I'll eventually be able to access everything and it would be impossible for me to have too much danny stuff. dana

Thanks for all the helpful debugging comments! We think we've nailed the bulk of the technical problems, but let us know if we missed anything!

It's working now on the west coast. It took awhile ... but now everything looks great. I haven't checked the feed yet, but I will.

one more thing..i've gotten used to doing my blog cruise via your site...Andrea, Keri, Trevor, etc....I usually start here....now what? * more whining*

Absolutely fabulous. I loved your site before the make-over but this new site is terrific. You have become an integral part of my everyday life and I love it.

Hi Danny, I love the new design it captures what you're on about a stack better.

Unfortunately, I'm also having issues with your Atom feed from my feed reader (Posted by: Lisa Ridolfi | November 30, 2005 11:58 AM). I also just tried to sign in using typekey to post a comment and it tells me you're not set-up yet and that the type looks rather wonky in comment-preview. Thanks for all the good work and inspiration.
Michelle

Hello Danny! What have I been missing all this time? You are an inspiration. :)
