In a tribute to Bob Ross and William Alexander, I shot and narrated a little time-lapsed film of me drawing the view from my balcony. The ultimate drawing isn't very good I found it quite hard to get in the zone with the camera clicking over my shoulder but it was a fun experiment. I then scored with a lovely piece of music performed by
Paul Viapiano (he recently sent me
his latest CD in exchange for a copy of EDM).
I have posted it here. Caution: give it a minute to load and excuse my bare feet.
PS This is weird. Just as I was about to post this, I got an email from Duane Keiser about his little movies documenting his own paintings. Check em out,
here,
here,
and here.

What a great idea! I loved watching your drawing come to life. Thanks! (And I hardly noticed your bare foot. Doesn't it fall asleep when you sit for a while like that, though?)

That was lovely. I love to watch artists at work. I have a vague memory of watching Picasso work and rework a painting. I think it was a film I must have watched in some art class. But it was riveting, to see what he kept, what he threw away, what he moved, what was important and what was not, etc.
Good.
No great.
Thank you.

Danny, I love how you are always messing round with new ways to share your love of drawing and your message to everyone to draw more!

I really liked seeing your process. Made me want to pick up my stuff and start drawing again.

Thank you for the demo. I can imagine the camera would have been intrusive but you know the remedy for that don't you? do it again! (and again, and again) - not that I'm greedy or anything...

Oh, that was so interesting. Was it just my computer or was the echo effect on purpose, a la MTV? Or is my geriatric paranoia making itself manifest in not being sure if something is simply modern or not functioning properly. I especially loved it when it was time for the color to be added.
Thank you!

Your voice is very soothing. I always thought you would have a harse New York accent...

Loved the drawing demo! Was that a rapidoliner? Simplifying what ones sees seems to make it a whole lot easier to put down on paper. I gotta work on that! Thanks for sharing .

Hey there,
We have a G4 Powerbook and a dual G5 desktop, both running 10.3.9, one completely up to date with software, and the other not quite. We can't get the Quicktime thing to work on either. We see the lights flashing away on the modem, then a while later, they stop and no clip. Thought you might want to know. I really enjoy your site.

Thank you. It is always instructional to see how other people draw and paint, and as an admirer of your style it was particularly nice to see my way of working isn't all that different--just not as well-practiced.

Nice and very inspiring idea. Do you mind if I copy it?

I found this very enlightening and encouraging; for me watching someone work is as inspiring as some actual finished pieces.

This is absolutely FANTASTIC!!!
What a brilliant idea. (i learned to do hammy oil landscapes by videoing Joy Of Painting and playing it back over the course of my own painting step by step)
This really is great.
And also really interesting to hear your voice too. Perhaps i can hear a little of the English left in there?

Wow! That was so fun to watch. Were you using a digital camera with a time-lapse feature, or did you use an actual video camera?
How long did that recording actually last? How often was it taking a shot?
Thanks for sharing it. One day, I'd love to do that too!
