Write Me

Mon nouveau livre

October 2, 2005

Last Thanksgiving, Patti and I took a lovely trip to Paris and I made about sixty illustrations for Eric Maisel's book, A Writers Paris: A Guided Journey For The Creative Soul . The book is on store shelves now and a quite handsome thing it is too.
I'll be honest, the first galleys were a little bit of a suprise my drawings seemed small and were sharing space with a melange of collages by Claudine Hellmuth. When I saw the final book, however, I was a more encouraged; it was printed in a nice duo-tone on good stock and you get a pretty good sense of the ink wash I was using. The book has a nice mood and the collages aren't distracting and Eric's essays are very a inspiring guide to my second favorite town.
Aaaanyway, if you're contemplating a trip or just love Paris, check it out.

Your comments about Claudine Hellmuth are tounge in cheek, right? I mean it's Claudine. THE Claudine. YOU get to share space with Claudine!!! Having said that, the way I came to your blog was from someone on Claudine's yahoo group telling us you mentioned her in your blog. I didn't recognize your name then I saw the mention of Everyday Matters. I was looking for a book some time ago and that one came up as one of the "person who bought this also purchased"... books and I looked it over and wanted to buy it but couldn't right then. Then I forgot about it. Now here it and you are again so I KNOW it's meant for me to buy it. And your new book sounds terrific! Hope it comes out somewhere near on time. Seems books rarely do anymore. Anyway that's all. I'll check out more of your blog now that I know you exsist. I'm sure a lot of people will buy this Paris book because of Claudine then they'll find out about you too! Cool!

Gulp. I guess I'll consider myself lucky. The Claudine. Who knew?

Claudine rules! I ran into your blog through some tangent of the whole collage-altered book-mixed media-zine universe. And she's a BIG DEAL. You're in VERY good company young man, so don't be cheeky! There's room for both of you and all y'alls fans. xoxo, Michelle in Raleigh

I'm going to Paris in a month, and I LOVE Maisel's books (and yours too), so am ordering NOW.

I never heard of Claudine either, but if she's the Collage Danny Gregory, she must be good.
