I am getting used to drawing our new hound, Joe, a little bit each day. He is a lovely little guy, very affectionate and well-mannered, but I can only draw him when he naps. With time, I'll get him in full motion.
He has unusual proportions, being a dachshund — long and serpentine with stubby, feathered paws. Unlike my old dog, Frank, he is basically all one color with variations only in texture. Frank's markings were helpful landmarks and I was better at capturing his various territories of dark and light. I still tend to draw Joe too narrow and to make his snout too short.
Boy, it's nice having a hound around the house again.

Joe's a cute li'l guy! One thing I've found with drawing my bulldog, Ripley, is that once you've drawn one dog consistently, it's not as hard getting used to drawing another. It takes a little study, as you say, but it's not like starting from scratch. Scratch, scratch. Scratch.

I am hopelessly in love with Joe and haven't stopped telling everyone I know about him and showing them
the little photo on the photo stamp...
he is the most gorgeous little thing.
What a treat to meet almost your whole family!

Wonderful!! I love it! My fav is the upside-down one at the bottom right. Just love how you capture his character and those delightful paws!
Yeah...don't know what we'd do without our pups!

Makes me miss my dog...Cooper. We had him for 11 years, but he got cancer. I love all your sketches of Joe. Someday, when the kids are older, maybe we will get another dog.

I love these Danny! My new pup Orla Bean is a Mini Pinscher, with markings similar to dachshund, and I've had the same trouble in trying to draw her. [Also, she's not very interested in posing.]

What a cutie Danny!! We have a bassett/beagle mix...with a BIG WOOOF!! Yes, I love hounds too. They are little devils sometimes....I now understand the saying..."Let sleeping dogs lay!"
Great job at drawing the little guy! I agree with Karen..the more you do...the easier it becomes!
Thank you for sharing these!

I sure do love a dog.
And I sure do love the drawings, cute little guy!
If I hadn't put the comma in there, the above sentence would have had a whole different ring to it.
Or should it have been a semicolon?
Punctuation and punctuality have never been my strong suits.
