I rant and then I recant.
It's certainly nice to just say, "Well, the info they based the alert upon is obsolete and we're safe," but I still have a nagging feeling. I don't think I'd feel better if there was no public announcement about the possibility of an attack and then one happened. It's just so hard to know how to feel about this business.
I don't trust Bush and his henchman at all but they're not really the enemy. Al Quaeda, however, feels so much more like a force of nature than a group of people at whom one can get angry.

I'd still take everything spoken by Dubya with a grain of salt. I firmly believe that his political manipulation includes using existing and past terroristic threats to focus the public's attention on his administration.
I can't help but compare his manipulation of the press and public alarm to the methods of propaghanda and scare tactics employed by Benito Mussolini.
But then again.. I live in Austin Tx and I'm bombarded with Anti-Bush propaghanda at every corner! ;)

Sir,
Count me as one of your admirers. I like your work. But as you write in Wolf II, the situation is developing. Bush Derangement Syndrome seems to bring out the most predictable reactions in some. Myself, I believe there are lions and tigers and bears out there. And they are not named Halliburton, Cheney and Rove.
Al Qaeda seems infinite. But, so then did Bader Meinhoff et al in the eighties. But when their "root cause" (Soviet Funding) fell, so to did they.
Bush supposedly sees the world in black and white. His approach, however, has been extraordinarily nuanced.
Regards.
