Vive la resistance!April 1, 2004
I wrote to Chartpak, the US importer of Rotring, to ask them whether Rotring had stopped manufacturing Rapidoliners. Nancy Kopak replied: Not at this time, but we have been hearing the same rumors. If anything does happen, we plan to stock up. This still sounds a little sketchy (pardon the pun) so Jenrundall as begun mobilizing us to lobby Rotring and its parent, Sandford, with emails and letters, in support of the Rapidoliner. Stay tuned to this spot or come over to the the Everyday Matters Yahoo! group to join our campaign. |

I called London Graphics (http://www.londongraphics.co.uk/) who are the most comprehensive stockers of all things hard-core Graphic/art in London. They said "You do realise they have stopped making these, would you like us to hold our stock til you get here" (aww, bless!). So even the big-boy suppliers are reckoning it's more than a myth. I'll check with them when I pop into the store, but meanwhile - write regardless :) If they're so much as thinking about discontinuing these pens, we can at least be proactive.
Thanks for putting this on your site, Danny :)
(and thanks for the tip on the pens. they rock!)

By the way, they make a 0.18 pen too. I will try and get hold of one if I can, as they sound awesome...

The plus side of all this pen business, is the artwork you're doing for your illustrations of the issue.
Thanks!

This is spooky. Just earlier today, before reading this post, I was sketching my rapidoliner. Then I come upon someone elses sketch of a rapidoliner. These are my favorite pens to use. I have to have one on me at all times or I start to get cranky. I think I am going to go to the store right now and pick up a bunch. Please let this be a false rumor, like the horrible rumors that always seem to be going around about chuck taylors.

Just came upon a stash of Rapidoliners (0.7 and 0.5) at the BHV department store here in Paris (16,65 Euros incl. tax) - please let me know if I can send one (some) to anybody...

I used to use a Pentel Ceramicron (0.5 and 0.1mm; refills included a new ceramic tip). It was a gift in 1983, and I just lost it. Not sure I can replace it. The Rotring Rapidoliner sounds like a good substitute, but if they disappear.... By the way - I'm not an artist - my writing is just really really small.
