Write Me

Spam I yam not

February 1, 2004

I have had quite a few subscriptions bounce back to me recently. I gather that many hosts have toughened up their email filters and, as a result, my notifications are being knocked back through the ether to my mailbox.
My general policy is to remove those names that bounce, particularly since I have no way to get in touch with them.
If your host has changed its policy of late or if you have not been getting regular notifications, write to me at danny@dannygregory.com and suggest an alternative. Obviously, I'd like to keep everyone who's interested apprised of newly posted essays.
Cool?

Ah ha! I got the first comment!

Are you able to implement an RSS feed (I'm not technical at all, so I don't know how complicated that may be...) Some newsletters are moving to RSS feeds since that bypasses the spam filters, as the user has to explicitly subscribe and read it from their RSS viewer.

For the record, I've had no problem receiving your notices in my Yahoo account.

I had no idea that you could insert rss into email or that newsletters were moving to rss feeds. Seems like spammers could pick up on that relatively easily to get by filters.

Anyway if you're interested in going the rss feed route movable type already has support for rss feeds built in. Editting the index.rss file isn't hard at all since the tags are very representative of their function and I think there is lots of documentation on the web as well.

p.s Thanks for the entry "Help from Roz." One of the things that's most helpful to me is knowing what tools people are using and how they are using them.
