Today we were all very busy. I managed to finish my project for Artiology, "a Celebration of the wonder that is the human body," a theme which frankly left me dry. I don't really celebrate the body, nor do I wonder much about it. If my bod moves my brain around and keeps it going, I'm usually pretty satisfied. Anyway, I finally got my piece together, made 87(!) copies, put in this package and at some point will recieve a deck comprised of 85 other works of art on the same theme.

After Richard Bell sent me some impeccable sketches he had done of lapwings, I went to the park and tried my hand at sketching the squirrels as they dash around foraging. They are all very sleek and healthy these days as they acumulate their winter fat and, though they are very used to humans, are constantly on the move and really hard to draw. I would examine one, then look down to my paper to record the observation, look back up and the damned thing had not only changed position, it was now 100 yards away. Anyway, I did that until the sky turned pink and my hands turned blue. Horrible results but a noble failure.
Jack, meanwhile, had been drawing with his new fabric markers and made this incredible t-shirt about how to draw muscles, an elaborate tutorial that is really great. He and Patti were also making origami and packing up the last of the Christmas gifts. Our house is always the most homey when we are all in our respective corners, art supplies flying, scissors clacking.
