DeStuffing my life

December 27, 2003

Maybe it's all this Christmas loot but Patti and I both had an urge to purge our home of some of the things that clutter it. I decided to pick on a little curio cabinet in our kitchen and suggested we sell our collection of salt and pepper shakers (which we bought spontaneously at an auction many years ago, the whole lot for what seemed a pittance, but which were immediately bunged away to gather dust).
Today they went on eBay. In a week, they'll be someone else's clutter.
I decided that I would bid the shakers goodbye by drawing them. As I studied them, I came to see their charm anew and was almost tempted to hang on to then but, no, they must all go.
You can bid on them if you need some clutter.
It was so easy to get 'em up and out that I immediately started prowling the house, thinking,"What else can we get rid of? Everything?" It's ironic that I worry about making money to spend on things we don't really want, often don't even know we have. Possessions are such a burden and yet yesterday, the day after the orgy of Christmas, I had to buy myself two brushes and four pens to add to my bottomless collection.

What a delightful site! I love your sketches!
I too am a collector of ... well, junk, life clutter... but... as you experienced with these little drawings, some of this stuff is rich eye and soul candy! I think the key is to change the clutter every now and then.

Enjoy the new year, LI
